Creating Connection through Collaboration

A couple of weeks ago I hosted a Teambuilding art workshop for my team. It was a brand new workshop format which had evolved from all the previous workshops I had implemented. Through this I wanted to foster collaboration through team effort and create an environment that was conducive to experimentation and play. And I have to say, it was pretty magical.

In dentistry, we don’t really have the space to be able to experiment and play, for fear of making mistakes. In art, it’s the opposite. I encourage people to embrace the imperfect and just go for it. And that’s exactly what they did.

Teambuilding is really important because it’s a chance to get to know individual members of the team outside of the work environment. We all have our own unique strengths and I think it’s important that we all recognise that.

Teams are made up of these individuals who are all unique and have their own stories to tell, and when all of those come together as a team, you can create something truly special. I think this was also reflected in the work we all created. Really imaginative, colourful creations that were all totally different, but when they all came together it was a beautiful mosaic of collaboration. As each individual piece of work was laid down one by one, it really created that wonderful connection we all have as a team. They also included values that were important to them.
